No soccer for me

I went and watched my team play soccer tonight, and to make sure I didn't play, I wore moccasins and left my sports bag at home. I knew that if I stepped on the field, even for a minute or two while someone got water, there was no turning back. I loathe watching my team from the sideline, but I prefer that to the current worst case scenario, which would be ending up in the hospital. Sideline is starting to look more and more appealing...

While I wouldn't say I am feeling any better, I'm not feeling worse, so thats a plus.

Awesome Cake

A girl in the office made this... can't wait to have a slice of it tomorrow!

When I started having a hard time breathing today, I finally gave in and went to the doctor. It felt like I had a lead vest (or a fat pug) permanently affixed to my sternum in addition to the wheezing.

At this point, the doctors best guess (best guess... don't you love that?!) is that a virus caused my asthma to flare up and it hasn't unflared itself yet. Crossing my fingers that a week of steroids will mean I can breathe comfortably again!

Making Eggs

I would love to report that my lungs are back to 100%, but instead I got winded going down a single flight of stairs this morning. Hopefully this is the last day of staying in bed! The x-games have been on tv this weekend, and I'm pretty sure I have watched every single hour of it. At least my lungs considered the tv options when they decided to go to a part-time schedule.

Because sometimes its just not optional

When I woke up this morning I was wheezing pretty badly, which is a major bummer because I was finally starting to feel better after having a killer cold for a week. I spent the majority of the day laying on my bed and hacking up a lung in between puffs of my inhaler. By tonight I was feeling somewhat sorry for myself and my crappy lungs and I decided that I absolutely needed a chipwich. 7-11 is behind my house, so I threw on my jacket and walked over to get the required snack. By the time I got back (approximately 2 minutes and 25 steps later) I was panting and felt like I had done a set of wind sprints. Thanks lungs, I really feel the love.

Hoping that I can breathe easier tomorrow and not choke every time I inhale. And yes, the chipwich was delicious and all I hoped it would be.

Confused weather

This morning, rain boots were mandatory. This afternoon, sunglasses were not optional. Weird.

Check out the knee cap

See that Mercedes logo on my knee cap? Yeah, thats the stitching of a soccer ball from my game. Not a game that just finished 20 minutes ago, my game last night.

Combine this with painful breathing (chest cold), hacking up a lung on the field (chest cold + asthma), a fat lip (2 shots to the face) and our team having 1 less player than the other team and you can almost picture how I looked at the end of the game. Almost.

Unintentional

We didn't plan to coordinate, and we didn't even realize we were until someone in the office pointed it out. Apparently its a good color combination!

Fancy Nancy

My day instantly got better when I found this Fancy Nancy sticker on my sweatshirt from Ingrid.

Info Button

I was starting to feel a bit better today until I went out and did a few things, and now I am once again exhausted. Must be time to go back to bed.

I realized I didn't have a photo of the day yet and glanced down at my remote and found myself thinking about how great it would be in there was an info button for real life. Instead of checking what time a show started or ended, you could see when you would be feeling better. I'm tired of being sick, could you tell?

So much water

Headcold + sore throat = drinking even more water than usual. I feel crappy enough that I even turned down cupcakes at the office, and we all know that is saying something big. Planning on sleeping a lot this weekend and hopefully not leaving my house tomorrow!

Great Packaging

A standard brown box might not be the most interesting thing, but this tiny (and inexpensive!) addition makes it both memorable and extremely awesome.

And no, the items inside the box had nothing to do with dinosaurs... it was from a photojojo.com order (photography nerd heaven).

Let's get digital

In my continued efforts to have less "stuff", I started to scan my old sketchbooks today. Its going to be a long process, but starting is always the hardest part!

Growing Pains

This morning I woke up and my knees told me I was old. I told them to keep such thoughts to themselves and suck it up. You can guess who won.

Ever since I got my massive leg bruise (which is still there btw, although much less noticeable) I have been hearing about the wonders of arnica. I bought some arnica gel about a week ago after another hockey incident and then promptly lost it in my room. I found it again today and decided this would be the perfect test.

I'm hoping it actually works and silences my disgruntled knees!

Birthday Celebrations

We were able to get everyone in one place tonight and we had a belated birthday dinner for me and Casey. Bertucci's pizza (my all-time favorite), homemade cookies-and-cream ice cream (amazing), and cake (thanks Carter) rounded out a great meal!

Just call me a social butterfly

Awesome KG reunion happy hour / dinner, then visited Apple folks, then had drinks and a good chat with Rob... amazingly social and a great evening!

I had a couple of other potential pictures for today's post, but this gift from Rob takes the cake!

Captive Audience

I was at the grocery store and decided that baked potatoes couldn't possibly be THAT hard to make, so I decided to buy them in preparation for my weekly dinner with Megan. As I blankly stared at all of the potato options at Harris Teeter, this is what was going through my head: sweet potatoes (gross), microwavable sweet potatoes (still gross but intrigued by the microwavable part), MICROWAVABLE RUSSET POTATOES (bingo!).

I was thrilled by this discovery and that they were individually wrapped so I didn't have to buy a metric ton of them when I only wanted two. Anyway, the next morning I was very excited when I announced my great discovery to Carter, to which she replied, "Um, Cec, all potatoes are microwavable."

I mean, this potato is pre-washed AND freshness verified! Megan appreciated where I was coming from and understood my confusion that regular potatoes could be microwaved (non pre-washed and without verified freshness, of course). It not only provided a tasty dinner but also a good amount of entertainment. On top of that, this is the longest 365 post this year. You're welcome.

Really, weather?

I was not mentally prepared for this snow today because IT WAS ONLY SUPPOSED TO RAIN!

Play Date

Ingrid has been begging to come play at my house since October, and today our schedules finally matched up. We played with trolls, had a troll tea party, did some art projects and then had ice cream. In her eyes, no trip to my house is successful if we don't walk to get ice cream!

Needless to say, we both enjoyed our rainbow sherbet with rainbow sprinkles!

365, Casey's Play

Tonight Carter, Ingrid, Alex, and I went to watch Casey in the winter one-act plays. It was enjoyable and he did quite well for his first time on stage! Way to go, Moose!

365, Ok to Eat

Lightly salted veggie straws are actually a great replacement for potato chips... even I was surprised by how good they were!

In other news, tonight I learned that tortellini floats in boiling water. IT FLOATS. This totally blew my mind, as all of my noodles come from a box and sink to the bottom of the pot.

365, Do Not Eat

While this cupcake looks mighty delicious, its actually just a pillow. An awesome pillow, but still not edible.

365, Lava Lamp

In the process of de-cluttering my life and living areas, I came across my awesome lava lamp that hasn't gotten any use of late. I brought it into the office this week, and I have to say, I am really enjoying having it right next to my computer. Its almost better than having it anywhere in my house because I get to look at it all day long while working, but it isn't distracting (which is important for me). While you are imagining a full-size lava lamp in a cubicle, I should mention that it is a mini one, and its most likely obscured by my chair when people walk by.

365, New Desk Accessories

Carter got me an awesome letterpress calendar and pen cup for Christmas and I love how they look on my desk!

While most people who had to work today were moaning and groaning, I was thrilled to be back in the office. Anyone who knows me knows how much I need structure and it was great to get back into the swing of things. December was fairly slow with the Arizona trip and the holidays, so it feels like I got an extra long vacation. Now I'm back in action and ready to go! (We'll see how long this lasts...)

So Long, 2011!

Highlights from 2011(based on my 365 photos):

January: Started playing floor hockey
February: Liesl was born and Susan passed away (but she became Liesl's special angel!)
March: Left my family of 3.5 years at Apple for a grown-up job at KG
April: Traveled for work (Lewes and Salisbury), made some great friends
May: Got comfortable using public transportation
June: Coached a youth field hockey team
July: Went to the beach with the family
August: Earthquake and hurricane Irene
September: Got laid off from my grown-up job
October: Got a taste of working a trade show with Natalie
November: Made freelancing my full-time gig, went to Disney World
December: Went to Arizona for a much more successful business trip

While the year had its rough patches, everything turned out ok in the end. It was hard to leave Apple for the unknown of KG, and even though I got laid off from KG, I got some good experience and made some amazing friends. This year was full of huge changes and new situations, but I feel like I have solidified my place in the grown-up world!
