Ugh, Internet

Our interwebs have decided to stop working for no reason. Well, actually it is the modem that is not cooperating. The story of my salmon cooking venture will have to wait for tomorrow. (I don't know what i would do without my phone!)

I guess I should acknowledge turkey day

Oh, and happy thanksgiving. I hope you all survived.

We Made a Pie?!

Today is a day that will go down in history- the day that Abby and Cecily made an apple pie! Abby orchestrated the event with some supporting roles coming from Nat (brought the food processor over), Thing 2 (provided most of the ingredients), and me (followed directions).

Oh, and this was AFTER we made mashed potatoes. Its pretty much the most cooking / baking that our kitchen has ever seen. And, it gave Abby an excuse to wear an apron (not pictured).

Things we learned today:
- the oven is hot and will burn you. twice.
- there is something called pie beads, and I am wearing them.
- directions work best if followed in order.

My Teeth Have Earned a Blog Post

Well folks, its been 3 years since I had a full set of chompers, and I finally got my missing teeth installed yesterday! Yes, installed. Like blinds. For those who don't know the saga of my dental woes or anything about dental implants, here is the VERY abridged version.

When you are about 2, you get your second set of molars (Ingrid and I had a bet going to see who would get this set first). Fast forward 10 or so years, and some adult teeth come in behind and say sayonara to the baby teeth and everything is just peachy. Unless you are me, and you don't have any adult teeth for that set of molars (all 4 of them). (Apparently its genetic and my sister has the same situation, but she hasn't had to go through with implants yet). So, the baby teeth that were meant to last 10-12 years ended up stuck in my mouth for 20+ years, and it was not a pretty sight. Actually, they looked fine, but they were constantly getting infected and I guess it got to the point where fillings didn't make sense, nor did a crown that would last 10 or so years. So, right after I got my wisdom teeth out, I was back at the oral surgeon's office to begin the journey of dental implants.

Fast forward a bit and the 4 baby teeth have been pulled, screws have been drilled into my jaw, implants have been put it, impressions and x-rays here there, and we are just about caught up to present day. There were a few hiccups along the way- I swallowed 2 or 3 of the screws within the first year of having them, and it turns out its not really a big deal.

Yesterday I spent about 2 hours with my dental team (that makes me sound special and VIP) and walked out with a full set of teeth. My mouth was certainly stretched and perhaps not comfortable, but when I got home I really felt the pain in my sinus and neck. Having teeth is still really weird, and I constantly find myself trying to get a hunk of food un-stuck and then I realize its just my teeth. I think one of the implants might be a bit loose, but I will have to wait until Monday to call up the Doctor. In the meantime, I am living in fear of it suddenly falling out and me swallowing it, which I think is mostly just me being paranoid. I have to eat mostly gentle foods for a few days so that I don't stress the implant, so bring on the stuffing and mashed potatoes!

Blogger / Blogspot

Blogger / Blogspot is driving me nuts. I want to upload a photo, NOT link it to the picture at full size, and position it along the left side. I managed to do all of the above in a previous post, but this is the second day in a row I have run into this issue. Also, blogger doesn't have an app, so I have very limited capabilities of blogging on the go. And if you know me, you know I probably won't remember to post that awesome thing I saw when I was out the other day.

On top of that, I don't know if I should refer to it as blogger (the name of the blogging... tool? interface?) or blogspot, part of the web address.

Tumblr, you might be the new home of my blog. I will post a link if it moves.

Too Soon

I realize that the rest of the world is not as kind as my family, and they don't understand the need to wait until AFTER my birthday to start decorating for Christmas, but this is too much. Seeing this commercial holiday vomit THE WEEK OF Black Friday would be understandable (or at least a little more acceptable), but more than 2 weeks before Thanksgiving is not cool.

An awesome new bag AND great packaging?!

When I got home from work yesterday, my lovely new Timbuk2 bag was waiting for me. Of course, the actual bag inside the packaging was exactly what I wanted (I designed it, after all), but the packaging was fantastic as well. You know you are a real design nerd when you get excited about packaging, and I'm ok with my nerd status. The company is based in San Francisco and caters to the biking crowd, so it makes sense that once you cut the packaging, it is a waterproof map of San Fran. Brilliant.

its all good

Well, my pumpkin didn't make the cut, but the ones that did win totally deserve it. check them out here: Threadkins 2010 winners.

I'm still excited that mine made top 20, and I had a great time carving it. It was fun to act like a kid and feel the gooey pumpkin guts for the first time in at least 10 years.

Top Pumpkin!

My pumpkin made the top 20 for Threadless! Threadless is this super awesome t-shirt company and they had a pumpkin carving contest on facebook this year.

Check out the other top 19: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=268961&id=34145704527

Because I couldn't decide which design to carve, I carved two.
Here is the other one:

All the cool kids are doing it?

Since the rest of the world is "up" with this whole blogging thing, its about time I hop on the bandwagon. Especially since I'm a technology nerd and follow tons of other blogs-- its about time I have my own. Blogging with some ounce of regularity will be a challenge, to say the least, but there are some things worth sharing that don't quite fit the mold of twitter or facebook.

Anyhow, lets see what happens?
