Office supplies

Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows just how much I love office supplies. I feel like I steal Carter's scissors on a daily basis, and while its nice to walk down the hall every now and then, I decided to invest in a pair of my own. And thanks to Amazon Prime, they came today! (If you don't think this deserves an exclamation point, please refer to the first sentence.)

The ironic part? I had to use Carter's scissors to get them out of the package.

Overslept

I wore this necklace so I wouldn't get in trouble with Ingrid this morning, but then I overslept and didn't get to see her. Typical.

Oscars app

I'm not a big fan of the Oscars, but that really isn't surprising considering the fact that I don't think I saw a single one of this years nominees. I am, however, a big fan of the official Oscars app on the iPad and the possibilities it opens up for future apps.

In the "Backstage Pass" section, the app displays the setup of the stage, shows where different cameras are AND lets you pick a camera location and watch the action live. Well done ABC / Sprint / Oscars!

Yes, that is a PC on my desk

For an Apple addict like myself, its hard to say any PC is cool (much less post it on a blog!), but this one is pretty nice. That little box there is the entire machine... no tower! While it is technically a PC, it is a very Apple-ish PC. In Apple terms, I would describe it as a perfect cross between the Apple tv and the Mac mini.

Why on earth would I have a PC when I already have an awesome Mac? Well, I have been doing a LOT of work in powerpoint over the last few weeks, and powerpoint on the Mac is a painful experience. Keynote is awesome, but powerpoint tends to lock up for about 5-10 seconds every minute or two while it "auto saves the recovery file," and over the course of 20 hours, that amounts to some serious frustration.

I set it up today but am looking forward to really testing it out next week!

DIY project

I thought I posted this last night, but apparently not...

One of the girls in the office found a fun DIY project that involved spray painting old jewelry, so naturally we had to have arts and crafts time this afternoon!

Back in action!

Well, my lungs aren't 100% back in action, but it was enough that I could play in my soccer game!

Home again, home again, jiggity jig

Lindsay drove me into the city this morning, and Lola and Muppet (not pictured) came along for the ride.  Lola was more of a co-pilot than a passenger and she would have been thrilled to be riding shotgun (sorry Lola, I called it first). It was a wonderful way to end a wonderful weekend!

Thanks again Lindsay, Brandon, Lola, and Muppet!

M&M Store

I have intentions of documenting all the places we went, but I'm just too tired tonight!

Valentines

I wish I had remembered to buy (and then bring to the office) some fun valentines. Maybe next year.

I went to the doctor again today (thats 3 times in the last 3 weeks, for those of you keeping count). We are trying out a new inhaler and seeing if that helps. I was on this particular inhaler in high school so hopefully my body will remember it and I will magically be able to breathe again! Hey, a girl can dream...

Lungs, you suck!

I know its a bit strong to say they suck, but I'm so sick of them! Tonight I will be watching from the sidelines for yet ANOTHER game. I'm not wheezing, which is good, but throughout the day it has definitely gotten harder to breathe. It feels like I have a small pug laying on my chest and it just won't get off!

Here's hoping I wake up breathing easier tomorrow...

Well, I tried

I went to my hockey game tonight and tried playing... I didn't even make it through the first period before my lungs cried mercy! When I wasn't preoccupied with the pain of breathing, it was fun to be back out there and playing again.

Tonight I got a glimps of a side of asthma that I'm not used to seeing... After the first period, I was done for the game, but even when you're having problems breathing, it doesn't LOOK like anything is wrong. When I have had less severe asthma problems in the recent past, it was with teammates who already knew me and knew I wasn't being a slacker. Tonight was an entirely new group of teammates who I have never played with before (except Megan), so it really looked like I was being lazy and selfish by sitting out. I tried to explain to people that I have asthma and it hurts to breathe, but again, it doesn't look like anything is wrong!

At least I got to play for a few minutes and wear my jersey...

California Rolls

Sushi from Bumblefish is a big step up from the usual Harris Teeter sushi.

Enough!

I really wish the weather would just put it's identity crisis aside for the moment and take one for the team. Its February, it should be winter, the end. I'm not looking for anything crazy, but a little consistency and a taste of winter would be great, and then we can move onto spring.

While these may look like standard drops of water on the car, they were actually bits of ice masquerading as drops. Great trick guys, really.

Finally feeling better

Monday afternoon I got nailed with a stomach bug and it sucked. A lot. I don't know if I have ever been that sick before, and its a relief to finally be feeling better!

Since I haven't done anything photo-worthy, today's photo is merely what is on my bed next to me. Yes, I still use Lip Smackers.

Tuesday picture

A day late, I know.

Monday photo

I've been really sick. So sick that I haven't touched my computer since Monday afternoon. In an attempt to not get TOO far behind on photos, I'm testing this method and posting from my phone.

3 weeks. 3 illnesses. 1 VERY frustrated Cecily.

Lucy the Pug

Lucy had surgery on her elbow yesterday and her arm is bound to her chest so it can heal properly. She might beg to differ, but the vet made her bandage look pretty darn cute (there is also a bumble bee on the other side). By this morning she had almost worked her arm out of the bandage, possibly by shear willpower and determination. After a trip back to the vet and an even more restrictive bandage, Lucy is NOT a happy camper!

Happy Birthday, Liesl!

Its hard to believe that little Liesy Bug turned 1 today! She has gone through more in the last year than most people do in their whole life, and she is no worse for the wear. In fact, she is awesome! She is a good eater and has lots of teeth, a super fast crawler, loves to scare her parents near the stairs, says a couple words (but communicates everything else just fine), is almost walking, loves any sort of music and dances along, and is just a generally happy and sweet little girl. Her face lights up when she sees her parents, and she absolutely idolizes her big sister. I may be partial, but that sounds like a pretty perfect 1 year old to me!

Cooking Adventures

Megan and I have dinner together on Thursdays and sometimes experiment with cooking. (It was at a Thursday dinner that I learned that tortellini floats.) It was at my house tonight, and I decided to take a big step and try to make pierogis. I should take a moment and explain that "making" pierogis involved putting the pre-made ones I bought at Harris Teeter into a skillet, but trust me, this is a big step. Pierogis sound a bit adventurous and Megan and I had never had them before, but I think I probably got the most boring (and therefor ideal) type: potatoes and cheese. We both like noodles, potatoes and cheese, so it was a safe thing to try. And then we dipped them in spaghetti sauce. I'm not sure if that is the standard way to eat them, but it worked for us!

I'd say my energy level today was pretty comparable to yesterday, but I am still wheezing and coughing. Sometimes coughing is a good thing because you can clear out your throat and chest area and feel better afterward, but I have left that place a few days ago. My current problem is it now seems to be a slightly different wheeze (perhaps it moved?) and while my body wants to cough, there is nothing in my chest that can be cleared, so it really isn't a productive cough.

I am thinking about investing in a neon sign to go above my head to tell people that I'm not sick, I don't have tuberculosis, I don't have SARS and asthma isn't contagious. Until I find that perfect sign, I'm still laying low. I had high hopes of being able to play in my hockey games on Sunday and Monday, but it isn't looking good. Until I can breathe comfortable standing still, I probably shouldn't play sports.

February already?

How is that even possible? I feel like it is still the fall of 2011. Then again, I forgot what day of the week it is several times today, so we really shouldn't put much weight on what time of year I feel it is.

I think the gross tasting steroids (yes, the swallowable pills manage to have a taste) might actually be starting to work. I'm still wheezing and having those annoying choke-cough attacks, but my energy level is slowly increasing. I'll take it where I can get it!
