365, Artisphere

I had a meeting tonight at the Artisphere in Rosslyn, and it was a pretty nice venue. Also, giant typography on the wall has a special place in my heart!

Last Night

I went over and hung out with my 2 favorite little girls last night (and Carter and Jon) and had a great time, as always. (And never a dull moment!)

Ingrid put on an Oscar winning performance at dinner when she tried to fall asleep on the table... 5 minutes and a few ounces of milk later, she found her second wind.

Ingrid and I watched some Strawberry Shortcake while Liesl snuggled, and Carter and Jon actually had a free moment to do the dishes!

Budding photographer, admiring her composition.

Family photo-op with their new pet, Phinneus (or Finneus... spelling yet to be determined)... This mink was found while cleaning out some of Susan's stuff, and it is now part of the family. Ingrid even took it to bed with her last night!

Really, Spellcheck?

365, Robily Strikes Again

This picture really doesn't do it justice, but Rob and I inadvertently coordinated today... pink shirts with purple sweaters. There are days that we do plan to match, but today was not one of those days- complete coincidence. Oh, the power of Robily!

365, Chicken Salad

I cooked some chicken the other night on my george foreman-esque grill, and tonight I made it into chicken salad. Once again I had to text Alex to make sure I knew the ingredients- (very complicated- mayo, sweet gherkins, salt, pepper, and chicken). It was delicious!

Schildknecht Sisters!

Too cute not to post!

365, Bleh?

Today's photo of the day was either going to be a piece of toast (my dinner), or my backlit keyboard... It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which would be more visually appealing.

I've come down with a head/chest cold and/or stomach bug, depending on the moment. Needless to say, I feel like crap. My hopes of having a productive day off tomorrow are turning into just hoping I feel better. Now, if only my new computer could make my cold go away...

365, A Fitting Fortune

I decided that if you eat enough fortune cookies, you are bound to eventually get a fortune that fits. Evidently, tonight was my night.

Homecoming

After 17 days in the NICU, baby Liesl finally got to come home! As you can see in the video, Ingrid was very excited that her baby sister is finally at her house. Ingrid gets very concerned every time Liesl cries, so she is right on track to being a stellar big sister! Liesl opened her eyes for a minute while having a bottle, and Ingrid exclaimed, "she has blueberry eyes!" Exclaimed is really the best way to describe the utter joy and excitement at her observation. Aside from eating, Liesl's favorite thing is being held and snuggled, which makes sense since she missed out for the first 8 days! She has crazy long "piano" fingers, as Gitsy would say, and she doesn't even bat an eye when Ingrid makes noise. Ingrid got a new baby doll tonight with a doctor set so that she could practice taking care of the doll. Ingrid made it VERY clear that she is not a doctor, and would like to be referred to as Nurse Ingrid.

Lots more pictures to come- just haven't emptied the camera yet! (As always, thankful for the improved camera on the iPhone 4!)

365, This Made Me Smile

We live next door to a family with 2 young kids, and it looks like this afternoon they were enjoying the nice day and decorating our sidewalks. This one was in front of our house, and it definitely put a smile on my face after a long day at work!

One More for Susan

I have started this blog post so many times, but I can't seem to find a fitting opening line. I guess there really isn't much to say... its incredibly sad. She went into the hospital on Thursday and died on Sunday- no time to say goodbye.  Liesl was born on that same Thursday, and Susan did at least get to see a picture of her newest granddaughter. The family has been through quite a bit these last 2 weeks. As if all of that isn't enough, poor Ingrid caught a stomach bug and spent all night throwing up, so she didn't make it to the reception. After the stomach bug Ing shared with all of us at Christmas, I think Susan would understand.

To those of you who have been bringing my family food, thank you- it has been a huge help, especially on the nights that Ingrid stays at my parents.

I think I'm going to think of Susan as an Angel, and she will keep an extra special eye on Liesl when we aren't there... Susan and Liesl are somewhat connected-- both in the hospital on Thursday, both in ICUs, both even had breathing tubes. It certainly isn't the ideal connection, and the circle of life seems a bit too tight, but it is what it is.

At the reception there were some photos of Susan, and we saw one that looked just like Ingrid... big blue eyes and a mischievous grin.

365- Rest in Peace, Susan

Landon's banana and I were in the same mood today.

More Liesl Pics

I did not get to go visit Liesl today, but luckily those who did took some pictures...

No More Breathing Tube!

Baby Liesl got her breathing tube taken out today! Here is a photo from today- the first time she got to be held by her Mommy! She still has her feeding tube in, but she is one step closer to coming home. Big hugs all around, especially to Carter and Jon!

365, Rubber Gloves

Some days just require rubber gloves. Today was one of those days.

Crossing our fingers that she gets her breathing tube removed tomorrow so everyone can finally hold her!

Keep it up, Liesl!

Liesl had her first procedure this morning and they saw results within hours! She is continuing to do well and is a feisty little thing, much like the other girls in the family :-)

We love you, Baby Lizard!

365, Troll in the Cabinet

This morning I opened a cabinet in my kitchen and found this... Thanks Ingrid!

(and yes, that IS a ninja turtle troll!)
